All about PTFE gasket material
PTFE is a fluorocarbon solid consisting of carbon and fluorine. PTFE has water repellent qualities, as well as low coefficient of friction against solids. It is best known by its brand name Teflon®. It is commonly used in non-stick coating for pans and other cookware. Its non-reactive, and often used in containers and pipework for reactive and corrosive chemicals. PTFE is a thermoplastic with a high melting point compared to other plastics and rubbers. It has great dielectric properties making it suitable for insulation in cables and connector assemblies.
Seals made from PTFE are used when other materials cannot meet requirements for projects with high temperatures ranges, chemical resistance, or friction wear and tear. PTFE seals are suitable for use in harsh environments with operational temperatures in excess of 200 centigrade. It has great qualities when considered for high-speed dynamic applications or extreme pressures.

PTFE is almost limitless in possible application usage. Due to its chemical resistance and high service temperature ranges, it has been used in high performance bearing and bushings. It is not susceptible to saturation of high-pressure gas, swelling due to moisture and low coefficient of friction. This makes it ideal for application including pneumatic seals, hydraulic cylinders, high speed applications, aerospace and energy, oil, & gas. Its properties place it in a league of its own in gasket and seal materials where extreme system conditions render other materials moot.
